6 Ways To Care For Yourself

It’s that time of year again when we express love for our partners. But we often forget to take care of number one, particularly in our roles as busy mothers, wives and girlfriends which seem to have multitasking as the default operational mode.

Make a few hours to show yourself some love and those around you will feel the love too.

1 | Digital Detox

Set allotted times throughout the day to check your emails and messages - dealing with them in your own time instead of stopping what you are doing the moment they come in, which will have a knock-on effect on the rest of your day. Quit the mindless scrolling through social feeds and websites and access the information you need when you need it, with intention. If your phone face is protected with a cover then place it face down when relaxing so you’re not tempted to pick it up when an alert pops-up.

2 | Take A Walk

Get yourself outside regardless of the weather – you’ll soon warm up as you walk and the elements can be so life-affirming. You’ll often find the solution to a problem will pop into your head, or better still you’ll realise it wasn’t even a problem at all and that you can let it flow over you. Come back refreshed and renewed to the reward of a steaming cup of tea.

3 | Do Something You Love

Indulge yourself in a couple of hours of solitude doing something you love. Be it reading a book or baking a cake - head to Pinterest for some ideas and see point 2 above if you feel guilty after a slice!

4 | Watch Your Favourite Film

It’s so easy to find a wealth of films digitally, even golden oldies that you may have watched years ago. Make yourself a big bowl of fresh buttered popcorn and retreat to the lounge – box of tissues at the ready!

5 | Book Yourself A Massage

The power of human touch is undeniable – if you like a relaxing massage then try a Swedish or hot stone massage, if you enjoy a more invigorating experience then Thai massage combines yoga-like positions with pressure and stretching.

6 | Take A Bath

Warm some big fluffy towels up and run a deep, hot bath. Add a few drops of essential oil; Lavender and Rose are fabled stress busters whilst Vetiver and Ylang-Ylang help to bring a sense of grounding and tranquillity.
